Music lessons are essential in the continuing development of music students.

Why take music lessons?

Playing an instrument can be hard.

If you’ve ever tried teaching yourself an instrument you might have found it difficult, and possibly even frustrating. Random squeaks? Classic reed instrument problem. Wind instruments in particular are difficult because they require coordination of so many different parts of our body, many of which we can’t see. This means that we may experience unexplained challenges doing something that seemed easy just before. Lessons let your instructor identify issues a student may be having in their playing, and help them develop strategies to overcome those issues.

Band students needs

Band programs are wonderful for introducing a large amount of students into the world of music and playing instruments. Unfortunately, large class sizes mean that band teachers just don’t have the necessary time to work with each student individually to address their needs. If your student finds themselves struggling to keep up with what’s going on in band it’s time to seek out a private instructor. We all want to have fun playing music, and working with a private instructor ensures that a student is able to enjoy what is going on in band.

You’ve Plateaued

Do you feel like you’ve stopped getting better? Does your music in band just seem too easy? Perhaps you’ve been playing music for a while and have started getting bored of it; maybe your music program just isn’t interesting anymore. These are signs that our playing has plateaued. A good music teacher will continue to push you with more challenging music and work with you to create a plan on how to continue to improve.

Starting as an Adult

If you’ve ever had an interest in learning more about music, or how to play an instrument I implore you to seek out a private instructor in your area of interest. It is never too late to learn how to play music, and to find fulfillment in music making. Starting out as an adult has its own challenges, and an instructor will work with you to optimize practice time and learning.

Lesson Rates

Lessons are available for the following:

Saxophone (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Baritone), Clarinet (Soprano, Bass), Flute, Piano

Jazz Improvisation, Theory, Composition/Arranging.

30 minutes

$45

I recommend this length of lessons for younger students, and for students just getting started on their instrument.

45 minutes

$60

For students with a bit of experience who find that 30 minutes doesn’t allow them to cover enough material in lessons.

60 minutes

$75

For dedicated students who want to achieve the most growth from lessons. I generally recommend this for students of High School age and above.

Lesson Policies

Frequency

Lessons last 30, 45, or 60 minutes, typically scheduled once per week, however this can be flexible. Student needs are diverse, and accommodations can be made to fit those needs.

Scheduling

In order for lessons to start we will work to find a consistent time that fits with both parties schedules. Once booked, that time-slot is reserved indefinitely.

Cancellation

Any changes to a student’s schedule can be made up to 24 hours in advance of their next scheduled lesson. In the case of emergency or sickness, notify me as soon as possible and we will work to reschedule the lesson.
